Areas of Unrest
11 June 2000 - Things Have To ChangeQOTD: "To whom should one talk back in this world if not to what one loves?" - Albert Camus, The Fall Reading: between books, deciding what to take with me on this week's business trip Listening to: Ahava Raba, Kete Kuf
First off, my apologies for the late posting of the last two entries. I've had some connection troubles and got behind on uploading. I got up this morning, contemplated spending the day in a stuffy classroom at UCLA mangling the Chinese language, and rolled over and went back to sleep. The class did give me enough of a start that I can get something out of tapes. (And a wonderful little book by Julie Mazel Sussman called I Can Read That which is a tourist guide to the most common characters.) I spent the day alternating between reading and napping and watching old Rocky and Bullwinkle videos. In the evening I called Elliot and we mostly complained about real estate prices. He bought a house a while ago, but the mortgage payment is interfering with his being able to save for retirement. So he is thinking about selling and moving somewhere cheaper. Unfortunately, cheaper also means a worse climate as he is talking about places like Stockton. My fantasies are more along the lines of New England, but I do find it interesting that both my brother and I would really prefer small town life to the urban jungles we work in. Anyway, I'm at this point where I really feel that I have to change things in my life. Things at work are not completely within my control, but other things that are stressing me out are. I need to eat healthier, get more exercise and get my apartment into some semblance of order. I can't remember the last time I managed to get out for a walk on a weekday, for example, and I know that would help a lot. So I bought some vitamins and I put a few things away and I went for a swim this evening. I'm making a point of taking my swimsuit, some shorts and a t-shirt with me to Boulder tomorrow, too. Not all metamorphoses require a cocoon.
