Areas of Unrest

27 June 2004 - Free Time

I had a fairly busy week at work, made busier by a trip to Los Angeles. I wouldn't normally have gone to the meetings I went to, but I was asked to help out our new guy. What that means is that I mostly introduced him to various folks and explained acronyms to him. Thursday was the really long day, with our meeting going on and on and on. We left after nearly 11 hours and there was at least another hour of material to go. And, of course, I had to write up my notes afterwards, so I stayed up late enough that I was not well rested for the flight home.

So I was grateful that this weekend was that rare commodity known as free time! I did have a story swap to go to, but that's low pressure. Even better, it was at Ralph and Margaret's, so it was just a short drive for me. It was enjoyable enough, though there could have been more people there.

I also got a bunch of errands done. I did a used bookstore run, getting rid of another 34 books. Well, okay, I also acquired 12 more and I still have another $13 or so of trade credit for the future. McKay Books had a particularly good supply of chick lit in stock this time at two bucks each, so a lot of my past trade credit went into keeping up my supply of light reading for the metro. Most books of that sort end up going back there, anyway. What I need to find is a place that will take hardback book club editions from the years when I belonged to the Mystery Guild.

The other things I found time to do this weekend include household paperwork (i.e. balancing my checkbook and paying bills and filing various things), buying a new supply of black socks, and lots of napping. The things I didn't find time for were shoe shopping, clothes shopping, cleaning the apartment, and achieving complete world domination. Oddly enough, I never do seem to find time for that last item.
