The weather here has continued to be perfect spring weather - a bit chilly at night, but in the mid-60's or so during the day. Daffodils and tulips are in bloom, the trees are leafing out, and everything is just all cheery. It's hard to be indoors at work, but that's not a real drawback.
Spring also means baseball, of course, and Washington is enjoying having a team again. It helps that the Nationals have started out the season well. I haven't been out to RFK Stadium yet, but I did watch today's game on TV. I admit to some disappointment that they decided they have to have a mascot, but I'm aware that my anti-mascot stance is a minority opinion.
Also baseball related, I saw the movie, Fever Pitch, which I enjoyed. It isn't brilliant as romantic comedies go, but it was warm enough and amusing enough and, Johnny Damon and Jason Varitek and Trot Nixon are in it. And I thought it captured the experience of being a Red Sox fan quite well. (I admit, I'd marry a guy in an instant if he had season tickets like the ones Jimmy Fallon's character has in this film!) It also proves that I'm not quite so obsessed as some. The only Bosox related decor in my apartment is a small collection of action figures. Though the thought of Yankees toilet paper is tempting.
Cultural Tourism DC put on an event this weekend called Walking Town, DC, with some 50 odd free walking tours. Given the perfect weather, I couldn't resist and did the "Scandals, Scoundrels & Scallywags: The Seamier Side of Georgetown" walk. There was a huge turnout - at least 150 people - but the guide (a ranger from the C&O Canal Visitor Center) handled it well. The best story involved the couple who had a fight over the last cigarette in the house. He struck her and she died, but the autopsy blamed natural causes so he got off.
By the way, the tour was the least of the walking I did. Because of the nice weather, I got off the metro at Rosslyn and walked over the Key Bridge to Georgetown, instead of taking the bus over. And, afterwards, I walked up to Dupont Circle, thinking I'd see whether a shoe store there that I like had what I'm looking for. Unfortunately, the IMF protestors were out in full force at Dupont Circle, so I just hopped on the metro there instead of shopping peacefully.
I'd thought of doing another walk today, but household odds and ends got away from me, so I just took a short afternoon stroll in my neighborhood. If things keep up, though, I should make sure to bring my walking shoes to the office, so I can get in a few miles at the end of the day.
