Areas of Unrest

21 November 2004 - Decluttering

This has been rather a dull week. Late afternoons meetings at work, combined with lots of questions to answer, kept me busy, but none of it was new and exciting. Nor is it likely to get better this coming week.

So I haven't really wanted to use my spare time for anything which requires actual thinking. That made it a perfect week to get some decluttering done. I sold another 23 used books yesterday, for example. And I knitted almost half of what was going to be a vest, but is now likely to turn into a shawl/stole sort of thing because it doesn't look like there's enough yarn for a vest. I need to get started on decluttering a few other categories of things. I have lots of music I never listen to, for example, and videos I'm never all that likely to watch again. And then there's just stuff. For example, I have a whole closet full of luggage, most of which I never use. There are two backpacks I use regularly and a duffel that I use about once a year. I'm never likely to use my brown suitcase again or the blue garment bag that's the wrong size for just about anything. Not to mention all the tote bags and the like from various conferences.

Oh, well, I guess I'll get around to it eventually. I am, again, contemplating taking some time off for extended travels and that would be a good motivator. In fact, I plan to bring up the subject with my boss tomorrow, during my performance review interview.

Finally, there probably won't be an entry next week. If the coming week is what I expect, I'd only bore everyone, myself included.
