I don't get Columbus Day off from work, but the government guys do, so it was a quiet day. I got a bit more caught up on email and did some office cleaning, but I still have more to do. The weather was okay, so I walked part of the way home. There's a huge amount of construction going on near Ballston, the highlight of which was a building being torn down. I was amazed at how many people were standing around watching the wrecking ball.
Tuesday night was the Washington Storytellers Theatre Speak Easy at HR-57. I was particularly eager to go because the featured teller was Antonio Sacre. I was particularly inspired by a story he told about his brother. At the open mike, I told my summer camp story, which went over very well. It's a pleasure to tell to such a responsive audience. In an incredible coincidence, there was a guy there who had also gone to Ein Harod. I'd have liked to chat more with him about it, but it was late and I needed to get home and collapse.
Last night was the Voices story swap, which was at Ellouise's. It was a small group, but it was fun anyway. When I left, there were a couple of deer outside her house. It seems like I'm being pursued by Bambi.
Today's major activity was a drive to Winchester to do a Volksmarch. There's some nice architecture in the older part of the city and the walk instructions had good historical notes. The most significant thing there is Stonewall Jackson's headquarters. The drive back was fairly tedious, though, with heavy traffic through the Manassas/Gainesville area. Still, it was nice to get out and move. Sometimes walking is a higher priority than getting my housework done.
