Areas of Unrest

23 April 2006 - Too Many Books

Before I get to anything else, the travelogue of my recent trip to Ghana, Togo, and Benin is up.

This was another fairly busy week at work. I made the critical mistake of trying to get out early on Friday. Thatjinxed me, of course, and we had a Friday afternoon crisis. I got everything done that I needed to, but it was still stressful.

Most of the weekend was occupied with Malice Domestic. I went over on Friday night to register and pick up the book bag, which had nine books (and a couple of magazines) in it. I stayed for the reception, but was tired so I left and ran a couple of errands before going home.

I went to several panels both yesterday and today. The highlight was Parnell Hall singing a song with the chorus, "I'm signing at a Waldenbooks, and nobody's there" at a panel on humor in mysteries. While I enjoyed myself, I can't say that there was anything else I heard that was particularly memorable. Of course, I also spent some time in the dealer's room and, despite my best intentions, found another ten books I absolutely had to have. I'm almost afraid to count the unread stack. It's not as if I didn't already have way too many books to start with.

To add to the hecticity, last night was a story swap. I drove down to Penelope's, despite the torrential rain. I had planned to tell something else, but the story Ralph told fit in well with it, so I told "The Secret Place." I haven't told it in a while and I left some stuff out, but nothing really critical. All in all, a pleasant evening.

Now, all I need is the time to get caught up at home, sigh.
