Areas of Unrest

5 February 2006 - Further Sleep Deprivation

I had another business trip this past week, this time to Denver. I went for a meeting that was supposed to be four hours. By noon, it was obvious things would go on much longer, so I changed my flight home. The reason for things dragging on, by the way, was completely annoying. Namely, if you are going to go page by page through a document, you really need to send it out to people before the meeting.

Anyway, to add to my misery, the flight was delayed. The net result was that I didn't get home until nearly 2 a.m.. I kept intending to get out of the office early the rest of the week to compensate, but things kept coming up. Finally, I took a few hours off on Friday morning, which I used to catch up on a few things at home. I'm sure my colleagues were happy not to have me around, since being tired makes me even bitchier than usual.

It's not as if I had a particularly quiet weekend, either. Yesterday was the Folklore Society Mini-Festival and I told stories there. I stayed to listen to some more storytelling, as well as a Mongolian throat singer. And I forced myself to go to my knitting group today, since I was sure I would just collapse into total slughood if I didn't get out of the house. I was exhausted when I came back, but the exercise bike always proves a good remedy.

Still, I am not looking forward to this week's business trip. I am, though, happy to have absolutely nothing planned for next weekend. I will, inevitably, get out and do something (assuming that the weather isn't too horrible), but I'm desperate for some unscheduled time.
