Areas of Unrest
12 December 2006 - Land of the Lost
Apropos of nothing, I feel like listing things I've lost.
- Lots of socks. The drier seems to know which are the most expensive ones, too, and eats only those.
- My favorite ring. It was a sapphire ring my Grandpa gave me when I was only about 7 or 8. The setting was shaped like flowers, with a ssmall round stone. He always said he'd add diamonds to the centers of the flowers when I was older, but he'd closed the jewelry store before then and I never really wanted the diamonds. It disappeared in my apartment at Venice Beach around 1987.
- A purple plaid shirt with silvery threads in it. I accidentally left it behind at a hotel in Colorado when I forgot that I'd hung it up in the closet, instead of throwing it on the other bed with the rest of my clothes.
- My temper. All too frequently, alas.
- Buttons. Usually from the sleeves of jackets, which is okay because you just have to take off the rest of them and nobody knows they were ever there.
- A silver pin with a design of three people sort of mixed and matched. I'm not describing the pin well. It fell off my jacket when I was walking in Northwest D.C. last year and I didn't notice until I got home and it was way too late.
- The envelope with my payment for my water bill. Which I already whined about here last week.
- One size eight knitting needle. Last seen on the sofa three or more years ago. I already had another pair, so I am well-positioned to do three needle bind-off.
- The pattern for a sweater I was only about a third of the way through. I think I accidentally threw it out when I was throwing out other pieces of paper from the sofa. And, since it's a 25 year old intarsia pattern, I'm pretty much resigned to just ripping out the work I've done and using the yarn for something else.
- Lots of coins. Presumably, they are more victims of my evil thieving sofa.
- My heart. To Robert, of course.
Of course, just making this list might be proof I've lost my marbles.
