Areas of Unrest

20 December 2006 - Deep Dark Secrets

Today was my company holiday potluck luncheon. There was, of course, way too much food. My cheesecake was well-received and nobody tried to force me to take the leftovers home. After eating, we played a little game in which people wrote down some interesting tidbit about themselves on a card and everybody tried to guess who had written which card. I had a hard time deciding what to write, since I wanted something that would be hard for people to guess. That ruled out anything travel related. In the end, I wrote down "I lost on Jeopardy." My division's general manager guessed it, so it wasn't quite hard enough. For the most part, my colleagues don't have particularly interesting secrets. My favorite was from my former boss, who executed his G.I. Joe when he was a boy. The game would also have been more amusing had it taken less time.

The gift exchange was something of a letdown, as there were few really good or really bad things. I ended up with a set of three little flashlights, which is uninteresting but has the advantage of being useful.

My final holiday event is tomorrow's cookie exchange. I ended up baking oatmeal raspberry bars, double chocolate chip drop cookies, spice stars, and plain butter cookies shaped like cats. The cat-shaped cookie cutters may be a mistake though, as I had to re-roll the dough several times when I broke ears transferring cookies to the baking sheet.
