No, I still haven't gotten the Poland travelogue done. Maybe it will be up next week.
Before I get into what I wanted to write about this week, I have one celebrity death to mention. Namely, Oriana Fallaci. She first made an impression on me via her interview of Ayatollah Khomeini, but really blew me away with her book, A Man about Alekos Panagoulis. A fine reminder of the maxim that "well-behaved women rarely make history."
I'm dealing with a certain amount of new-ness lately, what with still feeling unsettled in my new job. I'm not totally lost any more, but I am still definitely climbing the learning curve. To pinpoint that, I finally had my going away luncheon from my previous job. Alex and Andy both roasted me, primarily with things they'd heard me say repeatedly over the years. I expected that, though I have to admit that I can't remember ever actually saying, "the facts, although interesting, are irrelevant." And I hadn't realized Andy had saved so many bad puns I'd emailed to him. Along those lines, they've gotten me a t-shirt covered with equations that says, "Don't drink and derive."
By the way, I also had gifts for all of them. The one that drew the biggest laugh was the CD of "Great Country Songs" which I made for Kurt. It is, of course, completely blank. I also got some good laughs out of presenting them with a 96 color box of Crayola crayons to help them in color choices now that there were just men there.
The other new-ness thing is the Jewish New Year. I missed out on one tradition as I was unable to find any decent looking pomegranates in the supermarket. I could probably have found one had I been willing to shop further afield, but I had a cold much of the week and wasn't really up to it. In fact, I'm not really up to writing this now, so will cut it short.
