Areas of Unrest

26 December 2006 - Too Much to Do

The problem with going away for a weekend is that all of the normal weekend stuff doesn't get done. That's even more so when it's a long weekend. Throw in sleep deprivation and I am feeling a bit overwhelmed.

Fortunately, work will be quiet this week. I spent the morning on my normal first day of the week chore, which involves listening to and summarizing a lot of voicemail messages on the status of all our programs. It takes a long time because I have to keep pausing and rewinding to take notes. I also believe in spelling out acronyms and explaining some context. For example, when I write about a failed part, I try to explain what that part is for and whether its used by other programs and so on. So the whole chore takes me a few hours.

I spent the afternoon over at my other office, attempting to clean out a few things. We're giving up the space in less than a month, so there's a lot of work to do. I did delete a bunch of old email and get rid of a few papers, but there's still a long ways to go. I figure I will drive in one day this week and fill up a box with my personal odds and ends. I will admit that I spent as much time chitchatting with Kim as I did actually working, though.

I've got a tremendous list of things to tackle at home. Unpacking, balancing the checkbook, paying bills, filing other household paperwork, finishing the seasonal cards, answering emails, catching up on my various ppaer journals, working on my knitting, achieving total world domination....
