The work week was generally busy, with a particularly tedious all day meeting on Wednesday. I was seriously constrained by having to leave a bit early on Thursday, since Robert was arriving for a visit. That also meant significant sleep deprivation, as I rushed around to straighten up and do some house cleaning. The bagless vacuum cleaner is not as brilliant an idea as I had thought it was when I bought it. Sure, you save money by not having bags. But you inevitably inhale more dust as you empty the bin than you would have byjust throwing out a full bag.
So I attributed a bit of a cough on Thursday to dust. (And to the general annoyance of cleaning supplies.) It wasn't getting better on Friday as we went to Annapolis, but I still thought it was the irritation of cleaning. Except that it got worse as the day wore on and by the time I was trying to get some sleep, it was clear that I actually had a cold. An odd one to start with a cough, but that does sometimes happen. Sigh.
Being sick does not exactly work wonders for one's love life. After getting Robert to the airport I did get a lot of sleep, which seemed to help. But I'm still going to claim that I am obviously allergic to him, just to make him feel guilty.
Incidentally, Annapolis was as pleasant as it always is. We took a too short harbor cruise and walked around the historic area, including actually going into the Maryland State House, which I had never done before. We had to ask why the signer of the Declaration of Independence is always referred to as Charles Carroll of Carrollton and it turns out that he was making sure he wasn't confused with his cousin, Charles Carroll the barrister. And, by the way, the udon and vegetables at Yin Yankee Cafe are very similar to the Indonesian peanut noodles at the Boulder Dushanbe Tea House in Colorado. (Other remarkable food note is the delicious Bangkok green tea at Born, a Thai restaurant in Vienna.)
I was supposed to go out again with the realtor this afternoon and look at condos but she called to cancel because her son has an ear infection. We're going to try for Tuesday or Wednesday evening.
