Areas of Unrest

13 December 2007 - Survey Time

Rather than whining about still not finishing the shelf paper (as I did, indeed, so a few shelves and then retreat to a novel) or about the dubious utility of the software architecture class I spent the last two days in or about the weather, here's a survey (somewhat edited), from Brain Fluff Theater, which I thought had a few interesting questions.

  1. Height? I'm 5'6 and I really wish I was two inches taller since then I would actually be tall, vs. the tallish side of average.

  2. Do you own a gun? No, but I have fired a rifle (at summer camp). I may own a bow and arrows.

  3. What do you think of hot dogs? They go perfectly with baseball.

  4. What do you prefer to drink in the morning? Coffee, ideally freshly ground Sulawesi beans, prepared with my Vietnamese drip pot.

  5. Is your bathroom clean? Give me just a few minutes... Okay, now it is.

  6. What is your favorite piece of jewelry? Just one? I have a necklace my great-grandmother bought in Shanghai that I dearly love. But I also have two sets of big gaudy Lunch at the Ritz earrings and a Marty Magic bat ring that are dear to my heart.

  7. Name three thoughts at this moment. I'm tired, I'm hungry, I should really run downstairs and take in the mail.

  8. Name the last three things you bought. Um, groceries, a newspaper, shelf paper.

  9. Name three things you drink regularly. Coffee, tea, water (preferably sparkling).

  10. Name something cool you can do. I can make bobbin lace.

  11. Current worry? Saturday's weather. There's a Volksmarch in D.C. I want to do, but the forecast is for snow.

  12. Favorite place to be? Anywhere I haven't been before. Ideally, there is an ocean involved. Maybe being on a small ship a day or two from land.

  13. Least favorite place to be? In the middle seat on an airplane.

  14. Where would you like to go? Well, I'm planning a trip to Madagascar. Other places high on my list (some of which are more likely than others) include Samrakand and Bukhara (in Uzbekistan), Cape Verde, Yemen, and Laos.

  15. What are you wearing? Blue striped button down shirt and blue trousers.

  16. What did you fear was going to get you at night, as a child? I feared not so much that something was going to get me, but that I would go blind during the night. This fear had something to do with the bedposts on the bed I had, but I can't really see a logical connection. I also used to fantasize that Superman would show up and fly me to safety. So, yes, I was a weird kid.

  17. Worst injury you ever had? I broke my ankle around November of 1992. I did it in a pretty stupid way, too, involving high heels and one step.

  18. What's on your calendar? This is kind of ambiguous. The picture on my calendar is a Non Sequitur cartoon. The upcoming events on my calendar include the Volksmarch I mentioned above, a story swap, and an archaeological expedition in Fiji.

  19. What is your favorite book? Alice in Wonderland is the best book ever written and nobody will dissuade me of that.

  20. What is your favorite candy? Those sesame crunch bars that come wrapped in cellophane, though I can make a good case for Belgian chocolates.

  21. What were you doing at midnight last night? Sleeping soundly.
