Areas of Unrest

21 October 2007 - Unteal We Meet Again

First, shameless self-promotion. I have three storytelling shows coming up in the next month. The first one is this coming Saturday night (27 October) at 8 p.m. at Tysons-Pimmit Regional Library in Falls Church. Along with three other members of Voices in the Glen, I'll be telling scary stories. The show is rated PG-12 for nightmare potential and is free.

If you miss that, Bob Rovinsky and I will be telling at Kensington Row Bookshop in Kensington, MD on 7 Nov. And Tellebration is 17 November, again at Tyson's-Pimmit Regional Library.

The title of this entry is the actual name of a paint color. I want the job of making up these names. Yes, I closed on the condo on Monday and am now a homeowner. My first step was getting the bedrooms painted, since there is only so much off-white one can live with. My bedroom is Splash (a blue, obviously). The second bedroom (which is now officially referred to as the library) is Croquet (sort of sage green). I also got the trim in the living room and dining room done and that is Salsa Dancing (a brownish red). I'll get the carpet cleaned before I move anything significant in. I'm almost finished taking out nails and screws from the stuff I didn't get painted and will have to spackle and touch up paint those areas. The previous owner used a lot of mounting squares, alas, so I will also need a bunch of scrubbing with goo-gone or the like. I did go out today and buy a few odds and ends - basically stuff for the second bathroom. I got a shower curtain, tub mat, and trashcan with a design of penguins and a soap dispenser in the shape of a penguin. Penguins are only my third favorite birds (behind albatrosses and puffins) but nobody makes albatross shower curtains.

We're also moving at work (just down one floor) so my whole week has had sorting out stuff and packing as themes. It is, at least, a good way to force myself to go through things.

Tuesday night was a meeting / rehearsal for the Halloween storytelling mentioned above. It's going to be a lot of fun and I think we have a good program overall. Alas, I went home to the scary Red Sox defeat. They redeemed themselves on Thursday night, due to Beckett being simply amazing. I wasn't able to watch much of last night's game as I went to a story swap. If I'd been smarter, I'd have remembered it was going to be outside around a fire and would have brought my fleece. I did borrow a poncho from Eve, but I was still freezing by the end of the evening. It was still enjoyable, but I just blasted the heat in the car when I left. I was able to listen to some of the Sox game on the way home and watch the last inning or so. Tonight is going to be simply nerve-wracking. Go Sox!

I also had an odd coincidence Friday night. I normally leave work before 5 on Fridays, but we went out for drinks to celebrate one of my military colleagues getting an assignment he wanted. So it was about 6 by the time I got to the Crystal City metro. I was waiting on the platform when I heard my name called. it was Mo Pie. I couldn't place her at first, since I didn't expect to see her here. It turned out she was in town for a wedding. We chatted a bit and talked about maybe getting together today, which didn't happen as she had a brunch to go to and I was still drowning in moving-related stuff. I still haven't accomplished nearly as much as I wanted to this weekend, but that's how it goes.

Time for the game. Once again, go Sox!
