Areas of Unrest

7 December 2007 - First Class

I'm taking advantage of a hotel business center for a brief update. It's always a bit more awkward updating away from home, but it's not like I've been producing very long entries anyway.

I had a fairly busy morning at work, with a couple of policies to review. In one case, I found out to my annoyance that I can't quite beat somebody up for not following a policy because the way it's worded doesn't require them to comply until after a milestone they haven't quite reached yet. I can, though, beat them up on other grounds.

I left early and took the metro to Rosslyn, where I caught the bus to Dulles. Traffic was bad, largely due to the weather (sleet - yuk) and I didn't get there as early as I'd hoped. So I was glad I'd checked in on line. My flight to Houston was fine and was even on time. And, best of all, I got upgraded to first class.

Of course, this is a regional jet so there are only 6 first class seats. I wouldn't normally bother, but I had upgrades that were going to expire. Three hours is really too long for a regional jet, in my opinion, so the cushier seat does help. The "meal" they serve is kind of besides the point. It consisted of a can of a sort of pasta salad, a little bag of mixed nuts, a littler bag of "snack mix," a bag of pretzels with a raspberry honey mustard dip (which turned out not to be bad, to my immense surprise), and a bag of some sort of congealed fruit juice stuff (which was pretty awful). Notably missing was anything with protein.

Main thing to note about Houston so far is that it is blissfully warm. I took Super Shuttle to the hotel, checked in, and wrote this right after leaving my bag. So I will have more to say about the city tomorrow.
