Areas of Unrest

9 December 2007 - Hermann Park and the Zoo

It's after 11 p.m. and I just got home so this will be brief. I did, indeed, spend most of the day doing the Volksmarch around Hermann Park. It was a particularly peaceful and pleasant walk, with the exception of the few city blocks between the hotel and the park.

The Houston Zoo is within the park and I took advantage of already being there for a visit. It's a bit pricy at nine dollars and just okay. There are only a few bears (grizzlies and spectacle bears, all of which were sleeping). At least the lioness and the tiger were active, while the smaller cats were either dozing or off display. The strong suit is decidedly primates, with a lot of ring tailed lemurs, a new display of sifaka, and an orangutan who was busily opening his 30th birthday presents while I was there.

I got upgraded again for the trip home. The flight was about 20 minutes late and then a bus got cancelled, so it took ages to get home from the airport. I'm just about ready to collapse now.
